I have argued that our emotions are partially insensitive to the contrast between real versus imaginary, but it is not as if we don’t care—real events are typically more moving than their fictional counterparts…
But there are also certain compelling features of the imagination. Just as artificial sweeteners can be sweeter than sugar, unreal events can be more moving than real ones....

How is a ‘coffee cup’ allowed to be a different size than a ‘cooking cup’ and how am I a coffee-drinker-in-my-twenties without this knowledge? Also, my coffee maker and coffee beans disagree on whether a ‘coffee cup’ is five or six ounces. If units of measurement can’t bring us consistency in an uncertain world, what CAN we count on?
